In game 23 of the 2017 Women’s ODI World Cup, the Indians, batting first, posted a total of 226 thanks to Punam Raut’s valiant century and Mithali Raj’s fifty. However, Australia chased it down comfortably with 8 wickets to spare, thanks to a dominant 124-run partnership between Meg Lanning and Ellyse Perry. While India had their moments, their bowling lacked penetration and a sense of threat, and Australia’s experience shone through. Though a disappointing loss, it wasn’t the end of India’s journey. They qualified for the semis in which they defeated the Aussies to exact revenge for the defeat in the group stage encounter.
