IPL 2024

3 players Lucknow Supergiants can target in the IPL Auction

LSG qualified for the play-offs in both 2022 and 2023.

In preparation for the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) unveiled their retention list, keeping hold of 13 players. Additionally, they acquired Devdutt Padikkal from Rajasthan Royals through a trade. However, LSG also made some notable releases, bidding farewell to a total of 8 players.

Now, they will need to plan for the upcoming IPL Auction as they need to get hold of a few players to strengthen their side for the tournament next year.

Here’s a look at three players Lucknow Super Giants that the franchise can target:

Shivam Mavi

Shivam Mavi will hope to get some game time in IPL 2024

Shivam Mavi, the promising 25-year-old fast bowler who has represented India at the highest level, was recently released by the Gujarat Titans. Despite his potential, Mavi struggled to find playing time with the Titans, often relegated to the bench. However, now that he has been released, plenty of teams will be interested in his services and of them could be Lucknow Supergiants.

Mavi, hailed as one of India’s most promising young fast bowlers, could be a valuable asset to LSG, especially considering the team’s lack of depth in the Indian pace bowling department. Mavi’s addition, along with the presence of Mark Wood, Mohsin Khan, Amit Mishra, Ravi Bishnoi, and Krunal Pandya, would form a formidable bowling unit for LSG.

Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins recently led Australia to their 6th World Cup win

Pat Cummins is another pacer who could be a great addition to LSG’s line-up as they have just two overseas quicks, Mark Wood and Naveen Ul Haq, with the former being extremely prone to injuries. So far, Cummins’ did not have a great run in the IPL but given his prowess, a good season is bound to come. Cummins also possesses an commendable batting talent that serves as an additional strength. He has delivered several electrifying innings over the course of his career with some of them coming in the IPL too.

Cummins is also an outstanding leader as he had done a remarkable job as the captain of the Australian side, most recently winning the ODI World Cup. As such, Cummins is a complete package, one that can strengthen any team.

Rachin Ravindra

Rachin Ravindra, the 23-year-old batting prodigy from New Zealand, who burst onto the scene with a stellar performance in the recent World Cup, should be a target for the LSG. Ravindra’s remarkable World Cup campaign, where he amassed 578 runs, including three centuries, left fans and experts mesmerized by his exceptional talent. With their home ground known for challenging batting conditions, LSG could certainly benefit from a reliable middle-order batsman like Ravindra.

Moreover, Ravindra’s spin bowling capabilities would be a significant asset, given the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow’s spin-friendly pitch conditions. His inclusion would undoubtedly enhance the team’s overall balance and establish him as a long-term prospect for the franchise.
