The Indian cricket team, with its rich history and passionate fanbase, is a dream destination for any aspiring cricketer. However, the path to the national team is arduous, paved with not only talent but also luck and opportunity. With the competition being cut-throat, very few players see their dreams transpire into reality.

Over the years, there have been some extremely talented and skilful players, who have missed out on donning the Indian jersey. The name Amol Mazumdar might ring a bell. Even amongst the active batch of players, there are some, who have toiled for years, putting up good performances year after year, without getting a shot at higher honours.

Here’s a look at three such players:

3. Abhimanyu Easwaran

The elegant left-handed opener, Abhimanyu Easwaran, who plays for Bengal, has been a rock in domestic cricket for a long time now. He has featured in 99=3 first-class games and averages 46.29, with 22 centuries and 29 fifties. Easwaran has been particularly dominant in the Ranji Trophy, where he has churned out runs for fun, season after season. Despite his consistent performances, a Test cap has eluded him. He has earned call-ups to the Test side on a couple of occasions, but when the team needed new openers, others were preferred. Still, Easwaran is working tirelessly on his game, and his recent performances in India A tours suggest he is ready for the bigger stage.
