With the sacking of National Selectors, the Indian Cricket Board has officially put the blame for the 20-20 World Cup loss on the selectors. Reports have now emerged that the board is keen on introducing Split captaincy and Split coaching roles for the Indian cricket team.

The Indian cricket board has been criticised for continual losses at the world event since 2013 when India won the Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni. The decision to sack the selection committee has been a result of India’s empty trophy cabinet in the last decade or so. Reports suggest that the Indian Cricket Board will treat T20Is separately with specialised set-up, coaching staff and players.

“We can’t afford to lose repeatedly. We will not take any chance anymore. We are already in discussion with Rohit Sharma and he is comfortable with the idea of the appointment of a new captain for the T20 format. We will do the same with Rahul. He without a doubt is an asset. But there is too much on his plate and we want to reduce his load. We will soon meet him”, confirmed the top Indian Cricket Board official.

Chetan Sharma’s job hanged by a thread

Chetan Sharma led the four members senior selection committee and needed to win the 20-20 World Cup in order to save his job but unfortunately, Team India failed to do that.

“For Chetan to save his job, India needed to win the 20-20 World Cup. Nothing less could have saved him. But once, he was asked to select four squads at one go (New Zealand and Bangladesh away series) which was unprecedented, one could read between the lines,” an Indian Cricket Board insider, who has been tracking the developments, told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

The Indian Cricket Board is additionally looking to appoint a Director of 20-20 cricket in the coming weeks. MS Dhoni who has retired from International cricket is leading the race for the position and the board feels that the former captain could be the right man for the job.
