The 20-20 World Cup 2022 is the marquee event which is hosted by the Cricket Governing Body. This is the second 20-20 World Cup to be hosted in less than a year. Australia were initially scheduled to host a World Cup in 2020 but it got shifted to 2022 due to strict covid restrictions in place there.
The 20-20 World Cup has given us many movements to cherish from Yuvraj Singh’s six sixes, Zimbabwe beating Australia in the inaugural edition in 2007, India and Bangladesh’s 1-run thriller in Bangalore, and Netherlands beating England twice in 2009 and 2014. Brendon McCullum’s whirlwind century against Bangladesh in 2014.
The Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne, Adelaide Oval at Adelaide, Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney Gabba in Brisbane, Kardinia Park in Geelong, Bellerive Oval in Hobart and Perth Stadium are the host venues.

It is interesting to note that the prize money will remain the same as the 20-20 World Cup 2021 and all 16 teams who will battle it out for the World Cup trophy will receive part of the $US5.6m which has been allocated as a prize money for the tournament. The winners will get $1.6m, with the runner-up receiving $800,000. Both losing semi-finalists will be entitled to take home $400,000. The eight teams knocked out at the end of the Super 12 stage will receive $70,000 each. Each match a team wins in the Super 12 stage will earn them $40,000.

The Star Sports Network will have exclusive broadcast and television rights in India for the coverage of the event. When it comes to streaming, the matches will be streamed in India on Disney+ Hotstar.
