Star Australian pacer Mitchell Starc is set to rock in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. From the last two seasons, Starc has been the highest Wicket taker of the tournament and will be keen to continue his dominance. However, ahead of the main event, Starc delivered a smashing performance in the warm-up game against the Netherlands. In his first spell, Starc completed a hat-trick and announced his arrival at the biggest stage of the game.

After scoring 166/7 in a rain-interrupted game, Australia placed a bid on the bowlers to win the game. Starc didn’t disappoint his team and clinched three back-to-back wickets to change the momentum of the game. Starting from the opener, Max Odowd Starc dismissed two batters in the very first over. On the fifth ball of the over, Odowd was trapped in front of wickets. On the very next delivery, Starc dismissed Wesley Barresi for a duck too.

Being on a hat-trick on the very first delivery of the third over, Starc knocked off Bas de Leede’s off stump and completed his hat-trick. However, despite his amazing bowling performance, Australia couldn’t register a victory. The match ended without any result as rain stopped play during the 15th over of the run chase. At that time, the Netherlands were struggling to bat as they were six down with 84 runs on board.

Rain washed out India’s first warmup game

The hosts India was set to face defending champion England in their first warm-up game. However, the game was called off without a ball being thrown, as heavy rainfall didn’t allow the play. It’s worth noting that India will now move to Trivandrum to face the Netherlands in a warm-up game on October 3.

On the other hand, England will stay in Guwahati to face Bangladesh in their second warm-up game. Bangladesh will be boasting high confidence after beating 1996 World Cup champions Sri Lanka in their first warm-up game. It’s worth noting that the main event of the ODI World Cup 2023 will start on October 5 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
